Becoming a Dress

I LOVE this dress. It felt like I was working on this dress FOREVER, realistically maybe a few weeks. It looks amazing on camera with little sequins and yarn from Spain. Considering how short the dress is and how short I am, I was getting so frustrated towards the end.
I was really obsessed with how the knit round look hugged my body and I wanted to create a nighttime-going out dress that wasn’t black. Such a simple and versatile silhouette too. The undertone colors in the purple yarn are a darker pink and it gives the yarn a metallic plum look that changes in the light. It’s so complementary to the neon green, and they’re both intertwined with silver!! Kind of Daphne coded. She’s so gorgeous.
As soon as it was done, I knew I wanted to do a nighttime gas station motel shoot …

Sometimes you fuck up a shirt, and it turns into a skirt and then into a dress!! I think this was one of my first “bigger” projects. It just kept growing and growing. I had just learned granny stitch, and I was anxious to include it into something new. The construction was really fun to play with since I started with the top and then abandoned it to make the skirt. I think I was going for more of the drop waist look with an adjustable back. Slutty cupcake vibe.
My friend was so impressed that I always freestyle projects instead of looking at patterns, I swear it’s always on accident! I'm just an improvisor who doesn’t like to waste!! This dress is a pound of normal brown yarn with a fun two-toned brown yarn. SO heavy by the end.

This started with an arduous process of untangling Loops and Thread's gradient purple yarn from Michaels. Initially I wanted it to have the deep V dip silhouette and cinched halter back to hug the body (shown in sketch). I thought this might be new power look after seeing some celebrity at a NYE party online with the cut. The yarn was a little too heavy to drape that way in the front around the bust and my body was not made for that outline AT ALL. Instead, I adjusted the design to have a smaller cowl neck. Literally wore it once.
I let flow state take over into this granny stitch halter construction.
